THUNDER

Words and music by King Povenmire

You’ll never get from here to there when Thunder’s in the way.
You’ll have to go around it or you’ll wait another day.
It’s out there with a vengeance throwing lightning to and fro.
Enjoy it where you are today. There ain’t no place to go.

The day is getting darker even though the sun is high.
And Thunder shakes the ground while lightning terrifies the sky.
Now everything's uneasy as the wind is shifting ‘round.
There’s beauty in its power when you’re watching from the ground.

A dozen aviators, waiting for the storm to pass.
They’re sitting by the window with their faces to the glass.
The rain is blowing sideways as the stare out through the gloom.
They’ve all got somewhere else to be, but no one leaves the room.

The door comes flying open and a kid comes rushing in.
His clothes are dripping water and he’s soaked clear through his skin.
“I just came in from Tulsa with a load of friggin' freight.
I'm overdue in Omaha, but they’ll just have to wait.”

"At least you're safe here on the ground." an older fellow sighed.
He gave the kid some coffee - and then he almost cried
"My son is out there flying on his second solo flight.
I hope he finds a place to land. I want him home tonight."

You’ll never get from here to there when Thunder’s in the way.
You’ll have to go around it or you’ll wait another day.
It’s out there with a vengeance throwing lightning to and fro.
Enjoy it where you are today. There ain’t no place to go.
